Coupe de la Jeunesse (CdlJ)

My Commitment to the Coupe de la Jeunesse

The Coupe de la Jeunesse holds a very special place in my heart. This regatta is far more than an international competition: for many young rowers, it represents the first major step toward future selections for the European Championships, the World Championships, and even Olympic pathways. It is a unique environment where talent is discovered, developed and encouraged — a philosophy that resonates deeply with me.

My involvement with the Coupe began in 2004, when I first served as a delegate for the Royal Belgian Rowing Federation (KBR). Since then, I have remained continuously engaged in the organisation and have witnessed firsthand its development, professionalisation and growing international reputation.

From August 2016 to August 2019, I served as Technical Advisor and member of the Executive Board of the Coupe de la Jeunesse. In this role, I was able to apply my expertise in officiating, event organisation and selection policy to strengthen the structure and technical functioning of the event.

In August 2019, I was appointed Secretary‑General, a position I held until 2025. As Secretary‑General, I contributed actively to the administrative and operational organisation of the Coupe, to international cooperation between participating nations, and to shaping its long‑term strategic direction.

In 2025, I had the honour of being elected Chair of the Coupe de la Jeunesse, a role I continue to fulfil with pride and conviction. As chair, I am committed to further developing this important junior regatta, ensuring that young rowers can continue to rely on a high‑quality, inspiring and international platform that supports their progression.

For me, the Coupe de la Jeunesse is not just a competition; it is an investment in the future generations of our sport. My long-standing involvement reflects my belief in the potential of young athletes and my dedication to giving them the opportunities they deserve.
